  • What is Soft Wax?

Soft wax is a wax formula designed to be used with strips during the removal process. It’s soft and pliable throughout application and also stays sticky, which helps the strip adhere to it. This also gives users more time to apply multiple strips.

Nova Soft Wax at the correct consistency

Soft wax is the wax most estheticians learn to wax with during school because it’s relatively easy to learn with and effective at removing hair. Since most estheticians learn with soft wax, when you begin your business it might be a great idea to stay using soft wax.

Soft wax comes in semi-solid form in a can and is heated using a wax warmer. The wax can is placed directly into the warmer to heat the wax inside.

    Benefits of Soft Wax

Soft wax is amazing at leaving skin hair-free and supple, but also brings the skin itself great benefits. From exfoliation to ease of use, this wax brings a little something extra to the table.

    Ease of Use

As we mentioned, beginners and students often use soft wax during school to learn the waxing ropes. Soft wax has a slow setting time, and remains pliable and sticky throughout the application process, which is ideal for those who need a learning curve or who want to perfect their technique or who just don’t want to rush.

Effectiveness on a Variety of Hair Types

Soft wax formulas are highly effective on not just fine hair, but are also highly effective on short, long, or coarse hair and large application areas. Its longer setting time gives it more time to effectively grip fine hairs and other types, which can give it the chance to grip hairs that could otherwise get missed.

    Exfoliation

Soft wax is known as a great exfoliator since it adheres to the skin and not just the hair.

The skin goes through a complete natural exfoliation cycle about every 28 days, with skin cells naturally rebuilding at the bottom layer and shedding as they reach the top layer.

When soft wax is applied and removed, hair is removed from the root while also removing dead skin cells as it adheres to the skin itself. Because of this, soft wax accelerates that natural process by helping the shedding!

Soft wax is effective at slowing down the hair regrowth cycle, especially when done consistently. We advise getting your clients on a reliable schedule, as this will not only help with results but it will also help lessen pain if the hair is at a similar growth stage.

Your clients will appreciate that you’re getting them hair-free while also helping with their skin health, especially if you express these benefits to them during your process.

    Where to Use Soft Wax

Soft wax is generally advised to be used on areas where fine hair grows, like facial waxing for the eyebrows, upper lip, etc. However, it can also be used on larger areas linke the arms, legs, chest, and back.

Using Nova soft wax for arm waxing service

Our formula at Nova, however, is unique due to the thoughtfully chosen ingredients. This vegan, fragrance-free, and rosin-free formula was created with the interests of all clients and services in mind, no matter how sensitive they might be. We pride ourselves on carrying a formula safe for all skin types, because we want to make sure everyone who chooses to visit estheticians who carry Nova can achieve long-lasting, silky smooth skin.

    How to Use Soft Wax

    1. Properly clean and dry the service area.
    2. Heat your soft wax to an appropriate temperature as indicated on your formula—apply a test strip to your inner wrist before application to ensure the temperature is suitable for skin.
    3. Study the direction of hair growth before applying your strip, it’s VERY important to never wax over the same area twice when using soft wax. Since it adheres to the skin instead of just the hair, there is a good chance you could lift the skin and cause burns if you apply the same strip in the same area more than once.
    4. Apply the wax in the direction of the hair growth and lay down the strip over the wax, pressing the strip firmly to ensure proper adherence.
    5. Hold the skin taught and pull the strip off in the opposite direction of the hair growth, keeping the strip parallel to the skin. Do not pull upwards!
    6. Apply pressure with your hand to soothe any irritation after removal.
    7. Properly apply aftercare products to lock in your new results!

    Soft Wax Precautions

One of the most important things to do before using soft wax is to consult your clients about their skin-care routines. Since soft wax adheres to the skin, there is a high possibility of increased sensitivity.

Increased sensitivity can be caused by using products with chemical exfoliation properties (like Retin-A, acids, acne products, etc.) or sun exposure before or after waxing. It’s imperative to ask clients if they’ve actively done either thing to avoid carrying out a treatment where the skin could possibly lift or burn. Never wax clients who have used retinol, are sunburned, etc., as this can end in injury and skin lifting.

If your client has recently used products containing exfoliants or spent time directly in the sun, it’s best to reschedule.
